New products coming from Ring Engineering
« on: January 20, 2016, 07:35:03 PM »
For those that have not seen this, Ring has updated the "What's new" page. Completed and awaiting production is a computer interface and another project not named.

The interface could be very interesting.

I asked Ring about the Ci-1:

The CI-1 is a USB to Direct Radio module to allow PC programs to communicate with RailPro products.  We expect to use it for multiple PC software projects.

I was wondering what the CI-1 was. Should be interesting to see what it brings to RP. Thanks for the info Bill.

Instead of replying in the stay alive circuitry thread http://rpug.pdc.ca/index.php?topic=62.0 where it was mentioned that something may be available next month for stay alive, I thought I'd revive this old thread instead.

Apart from the obvious that something might be available soon for stay alive, it sounds like the wait might be just about  over for a few other things as well. I noticed that RE had updated their What's New page finally.  So far they advertise the new WH-9; 2 pack of 9 pin JST to bare ends harness. Will be interesting to see how much it is and the type of construction (IDC or crimped).

Roll on the new products...

Now that the new revised HC is finally shipping, I hope to see a bunch of new things from Ring in the near future!

Bill,

Do you have any details on exactly what's been revised with the HC?, ie, just the way it's charged or are there any other revised features?

I have not seen it yet, but according to Tim Ring, the only change the end user will see is the charging port will now be USB based.

I'm not clear on whether this will be the same port as is used for interfacing with the PC or not.

All the other changes are internal, with the intention of streamlining assembly.

That's great news!  The HC revisions have been holding up everything else because it absolutely had to be addressed.  Glad that it is now done and out of the way.  Do you have your hands on a new HC yet Bill?

Also good to know that Ring is providing a source for wiring harnesses.  I've been getting mine through Digitrax and they work fine.  But it'd be easier to get them all from one place.

Now I'm just patiently (somewhat) waiting for the new CI-1, stay-alive, and new prime mover sounds!  Hopefully within the next month or two.

Is the HC a hardware or software upgrade?

The changes to the HC are hardware only.  No change in abilities as far as I am aware, except for moving away from the round DC charger plug.

Would you know if our present HC-2 can be upgraded?

Thanks,

I'm not sure I understand this. Is this HC a different unit than the present HC-2 now in service?

Yes, It's different, but functionally the same. It's still an HC-2. It's basically just got some internal changes because some the parts used in it's construction have become obsolete.

So, apparently I was mistaken, the new HC2 is still not shipping.
Expected shipping date is early next week.
