I mentioned the following idea to Ring in an email and received a rather dismissive reply.
when I started with DCC I used Lenz equipment. they sold a decoder for N loco's that was in 2 pieces. it was rated for 500ma so I used them in my HO 44-tonner's. being in 2 smaller pieces makes it easier to sneak the boards into tight quarters.
the Ring modules doubtless have more components than an old simple DCC decoder, but nonetheless I think it's a viable idea. also I'd suggest dispensing with the JST connectors to save more room--just have Ring hard-wire the leads to the boards.
