Can Locomotive Modules be cloned?
nortoneye:
I was discussing another issue with Tim Ring earlier this week and since I have steam and diesel I asked him about steam sounds. He did mention that a heavy steam ULT file will soon be out.
JRad:
That's great to hear. The regular Steam Heavy sounds pretty good, I can't wait to hear what the ULT version sounds like. We just need that chuff trigger!

I'm bringing this old thread back up to see if there has been any progress in getting Ring to consider LM cloning. Maybe a better term would be Bulk Loading.
Addressing G8B4Life's comment, I would not want to clone module specific data. Specifically, I want to "bulk load" the items that take so much time to load such as the loco picture and all the sounds. Button settings would be nice too, but not required.
I bring this back up because I just finished setting up 4 LMs for a friend. All 4 are identical and have numerous sounds installed. It took me nearly 3 days, working a few hours at a time to download all the sounds from Ring to my simulator then copy each one, buy one, to all 4 modules. That would have been significantly faster if I only had to load one, then copy that to the other three. Obviously the data transfer would be no faster, but you could start it then let it run in the background for as long as it takes.
I'm sure stocking dealers who offer installation and/or custom sound configurations would appreciate this. I could see having a few "standard" configurations on hand that could then be loaded to a module in one shot.
Full backup of a module isn't something I feel is needed because nothing on a module is irreplaceable, so long as you keep copies of custom sounds and the photo loaded.
G8B4Life:
There's been nothing done about it that I know of.
I think what we're all after is not cloning as such, but pre-configuring (like one can easily do with segments of DCC and the tools available there.) so we could create a "container" file that contains the sounds and button setups, LM settings etc for a single loco type and then write the thing in one go, and then write the whole thing in one go again to another loco of that type needing only to change the alias (loco number) and picture, if you want. I don't know why this is such a hard thing for Ring to do.
The fact that it took you 3 days to set up 4 modules speaks volumes about how backwards and slow Rings loading and configuring system is in today's times.

JRad:
Tim,
That is exactly what I am after. You worded it perfectly.
