Lionel and other brands

I didn't see anything here about modules being used in a Lionel engine or with any other brand of O scale engines?
  I ask as I have a bit of O scale track on my layout and some engines. Plenty of room for module and speaker.
Why not ? Amperage ?  The old fardt in Yuma.
