EMD 567 sound file and GE generator???
« on: June 23, 2026, 10:25:21 PM »
A friend was over for ops so I cranked up the Proto BL2 with the RP EMD-567 ULT file. Ran the engne until it cycled through the generator startup. He immediately commented that it was the 'whoop' of a GE generator, and a late model one at that. I had no idea until now, but checking some videos, he was right. I wonder who put that file together, and how to get the correct sound in there?

That would be the compressor, not the generator with the whoop sound, and the whoop compressor is definitely GE. I've never noticed this before but then I've probably not run anything long enough to trigger the auto playing the compressor sound.

You could load a new compressor sound to the LM but you'd have to control it manually with a button and disable the automatic compressor playing in the sound setup. It's been a long while since I've had my RP stuff out so I don't recall exactly where that is. I always though building the compressor sound in with the prime mover sounds was not the most brilliant idea.

Compressor, yes. Thanks, I have yet to do any work with sound files.

I've avoided using the 567-ULT file because while it was recorded from a 567 (as covered in previous posts) it's more focused on the stack sound than the track level sound. Thus, the whine/drone commonly associated with a 567 notching up/down is subdued. I'll have to check it again for the compressor whoop, never noticed it.

I've been using the 645-12 ULT file - nice "stack talk" and you get the whine. I believe I saw somewhere that it was recorded from a SW1500.

Yeah, the compressor seems to be from a GE.  I believe I told Tim this in the past but nothing came from it.  I would prefer to have the compressor from the 567 file placed on the GEVO and 7FDL-16.  It's worth bringing it back up to Tim again.

I'll need to give the 645-12 another listen.  I like the 567 ULT even though it is definitely stack heavy.
