Title: Custom F9 O scale 2 rail install
Post by: TJMac on December 15, 2025, 11:49:39 AM
This was an odd one - I bought a custom painted 1970s Atlas F9 shell and built a new frame/drive line for it using NWSL Stanton drives. I originally put a LM-5S-G in it but noticed during the setup it was only drawing 400 - 500 mA. Decided to pull that out and try a LM-3S instead. I have three other engines with the same drive line setup, so if I can save $60-70 per engine - I'm all in.

Biggest 'issue' was replacing the resistor on the LED for track voltage instead of the 5v the 5S-G outputs.

Temps have so far been right in the middle of the range. Slightly warm to the touch.
