If a sound is grayed out on the RP site is there a way to audition it before taking the time upload it to a hand controller?
I'm currently editing the whistle from the Sugar Pine #10 shay here in California in DAW. I'm hoping to add it to my Bachmann 3-truck. Fingers crossed that it works.
Thanks,
Richard

I think this is what you're looking for. Scroll down on the page.

Yes, that is where I've been. Most of the steam whistle samples are grayed out and don't play.
-
Interesting. If they are grayed out, then I would think they should be removed.

Where a sound is greyed out / doesn't play then the sound file that the page links to doesn't exists on the server. There are quite a few of those.

No, if a playable sound is not on that page then there is no a way to hear it without loading it to a module.

I just edited and loaded (or though I thought) my Sugar Pine #10 Shay whistle but no sound comes out. The file plays as a wav file on my computer just fine. I can see the file on my handheld controller. But alas no sound.
Any thoughts?
Thanks,
Richard

Update on my wav file issue. Spoke with Tim at RP. He suggested downloading Audacity and then converting the Sugar Pine #10 whistle...and you know it worked. I've used a DAW for over 30 years called Sonar (Cakewalk) doing Broadway level musical soundtracks and converting this file did not work. So, I'll have to go in see what settings might be causing this.
Anyhow I now a sweet 3-truck shay whistle.

I'm sure it's a setting. I had that same problem in Audacity when I first started working on custom sounds. I finally figured it out, but don't recall what setting it was so I didn't reply to your post.
Glad you got it working. Would you be willing to share it? I'm always looking for more variety in sounds.

Hey Jon,
I was doing some track editing on a musical The Buddy Holly Story last night and had a smallish issue re-rendering the wav files out. Got it working but just not sure what trick was...too many things to tweak I guess.
I'm happy to share the whistle...let me know how to send.

Thanks Richard,
I spent 20+ years in IT before leaving for a less stressful job building signs! Now I do nothing (retired). When troubleshooting and trying different things it was always a question of which thing, or combination of things, was the fix!
You could upload your sound here to share with everyone, or I can send you my email in a private message.

Here is the wav file of the #10 Shay at Sugar Pine in California. I think it sounds pretty good and hope you can use it too.
Thanks,
Richard

Greetings Everyone!
I have an LGB Forney that I repainted and lettered to resemble the Fred Gurley #3 engine at Disneyland in CA. After researching I found the whistle that is used with this engine. It's a Buckeye 4" 3 chime. Attached is a wav file I have created in Audacity. Feel free to use it. I named it FredGurleyWhistle, but I'm sure you can change it to whatever you desire.
Thanks,
Richard

Thanks Richard. They sound great!

I've split Richards original post (and all the replies) from the Listing of Available RailPro Sounds thread off into it's own thread as it drifted off from just being about the sounds on Rings website. I've named the split thread as appropriately as I can.
