Title: Deadrail battery schematic and connector/switch options?
Post by: Wyantj on April 18, 2021, 08:55:00 AM
I'm considering installing Railpro/deadrail on my 2 Rail O Scale layout.

The battery that I'm considering is TRAIN-16 LI-ION 14.8V / .68Ah (https://www.mtobattery.com/products/train-16-li-ion-14-8v-68ah). It comes with a 20AWG JST SM connector.

Does anyone have a schematic for wiring in a switch and jack for recharging the battery?  Any part recommendations for the switch and jacks/connectors?

Thanks

Here's one way to do it: https://rpug.pdc.ca/index.php/topic,1187.msg9053.html#msg9053 (https://rpug.pdc.ca/index.php/topic,1187.msg9053.html#msg9053).

If you don't like the headphone jack and socket there's probably other plugs and sockets that'll do the same thing, ie if you don't have an on/off switch as shown you need a plug and socket that interrupts the path so the charger can charge just the battery without powering the LM.

0.68Ah doesn't sound like you'll get a lot of run time. A couple of hours maybe?

Here is how I do it.  Watch from 0:47 - 1:27.  While not RailPro, the setup would be the same.

You might want to re-consider your battery choice unless you are space constrained.  I used the Train-09 (14.8V 3.5Ah).  I can run my O Gauge train for over three hours straight.

.68 Ah will not run very long IMHO.  You can also get MTO batts at https://gscaleinstallations.net/14-8-v-batteries-1 (https://gscaleinstallations.net/14-8-v-batteries-1) for a better price.

My first Railpro system is due to arrive Tuesday.  I'm very excited.
Have Fun!
