Title: ESU Decoders
Post by: A214943 on June 09, 2017, 05:47:06 PM
Anyone have any idea how to utilize ESU decoders from Rapido?  I would like to get the Alco sounds.

Thanks!

I don't think there's any way to piggyback one decoder with another decoder, and almost certainly not with Railpro.  They don't communicate in a language that is even remotely similar.  If you're wanting the control that Railpro has to offer, Ring now has recordings of several variants of Alco's which should be getting released this year.  ESU has more recordings, yes, but they have also been at this much longer than Railpro has.

I called Matt Herman to see if he was interested in a sound swap recording I had done so we could get the Alco 244 engine. He was not receptive to the idea. Currently Ring has the 12-251 with electric start and the 16-251 with air start on hand. We're hoping to get a 16-244 sound sometime this year if all goes well.

I've been asking Tim for the 244 for a few years. Looking forward to it.
