Title: button picture descriptions, was: website sound list
Post by: nodcc4me on September 29, 2017, 05:20:43 PM
Speaking of lists, I believe someone posted a list of button picture descriptions awhile back. I was unable to find it. Can anyone help me out with a link? Also, there are many more that have been added, so it would be nice to have a complete list. The Ring website doesn't have such a list. If no one on here has that information I'll ask Tim for one.

AL, I believe this is the post about the button list you are looking for:

I don't recall seeing it ever get completed.

That's it Bill. Thanks. I'll ask Tim Ring for an updated list.

No I did not finish it. Sorry everyone. I did draft an email to Tim Ring asking for help identifying some of the more no-so-obvious pictures and if any other pictures must absolutely be used for certain things but then I contemplated what sort of cryptic not-giving-information-away answers I might get or how little time he'd have for the task so then I though about a webform (database driven) that he could simply fill in bit's and pieces at a time when he had a few minutes here and a few minutes there but I didn't go ahead; I lack enough experience to create that from scratch.

If someone else wants to run with the webform idea I can provide the pictures.

No need for apologies Tim. It was nice of you to post the first one. If I knew how to set up a webform I would do it.

Tim, how about you post what you have and the rest of us will eventually fill in the blanks?

The form itself is the easy part, that I can do. It's writing PHP for it to safely drive a MySQL backend (a database for those that don't know what MySQL is) that is the trouble. I'd like to learn but oh so little time these days :( and I don't think I'll find a ready made solution anywhere.

Bill, that might not be a such a bad idea. I'll have to see where I got up to and also get the new individual button pics as well. Let me go digging...

Thanks Alan.

Much appreciated. I do have all the buttons in spreadsheet now which I'm populating with what information I know. My 6 point plan is this:
Then if required:

While the database with front end is more complicated and therefore more time consuming for us I think it'd be the easiest and less time consuming for Tim Ring than asking him to download and fill out a spreadsheet..

I think a spreadsheet on Google Docs would be sufficient. I don't see this as needing a database of it's own. It's over complicated.

Otherwise, ONE email for each question would be easy for Ring to reply to and keep track of without needing to navigate outside of the tools he has open every day.

Once we have the list ready, I'll be happy to ask Ring for the answers we're looking for.

I'm not a Google user (other than search engine) so if this were to be then someone else would need to do this

That is what I was wanting to achieve, not need for him to navigate outside of the tools he has open everyday, and everyone has a browser open don't they ::) . I think multiple emails could be easily lost / forgotten; I imagine TR has magnitudes of emails every day so loosing track wouldn't be too hard.

If your happy to do so I'm happy to let you :D

ok, Let's keep it simple.  I'll take care of the correspondence when the time comes.
