Title: 21 pin
Post by: Antoine L. on November 21, 2017, 10:09:13 AM
Hello
Not sure if anyone has tried this before but some locos are equipped with 21 pin plugs. (I absolutely love the latest Rapido release and I am planning to buy one, but it's 21 pin)

I am sure there is a way to use Railpro with this loco without sacrificing light effects ? Right?

Has anyone tried it?

Antoine

Okay! That's nice!

Question is now, does it reduce some lights output? Like the numberboards, the ditch lights, the headlight, the back light etc..?

Thanks

I recently did a Bowser SD40-2 with a 21 pin. Those Bowser SD40-2s do not have a lot of spare space!!

I couldn't get everything to fit in the install (LM, KA, Speaker, etc.), so I had to sacrifice the rear light as installed by Bowser. If memory serves, I also had to pull the light baffle for the class lights, but I can't recall at the moment (I'm at work and the unit is at home). If I get brave, I'll remount the SM LED for the rear light, but it's not a game changer for me.

The headlight and ditchlights work as supplied by Bowser. I haven't set-up anything else at this time, but I presume it should be workable. I'll pop the shell later this week and let you know.

did you use the 21 to 9 pin wire or hardwired everything?

Today I used the 9 to 21 pin adapter on couple of locomotives. Yes you lose some lighting features. Athearn SDP40F, the red emergency and ground lights under the cab won't work. The Intermountain ES44AC the rear ditch (if equipped) and number board lights won't work.
Scale Trains SD40-2 the beacon and some of the class lights will not work.
It is possible to wire these lights off the rear outputs of the LM module by accessing the light wiring directly.

I used the TCS 21 pin to 9 pin harness for the Bowser SD40-2.

I cracked open the Bowser SD40-2 that I did an install in last night, and the lights for the numberboards and class lights were left intact. I cannot get them to turn on using the connections on the harness on the 9 pin side of the LM, so I suspect that you'd need to connect them to the 6 pin side to get them to work.

Do you guys think the new Dash8-40cm loco from Rapido has enough space in fuel tank for Railpro module? Will it be an easy install?

If some of you try it, let us all know!

I will be trying it but my Dash-8's are in the second run.
