Title: Model Railroad Planning and RP
Post by: ON28 on November 14, 2019, 09:24:23 PM
Large O scale layout featured in MRP, noting in the Table of Contents and high up in the story that it runs deadrail on battery. Only later in the text does it briefly mention RailPro installed by Remote Control Systems of New England. All well and good, but this is one reason why, when I tell other hobbyists I am using RP, they say, "Oh yes, that's a battery system." Only when I demo and explain that it runs on constant voltage like DCC do they warm to the subject.

RailPro is (and is perceived as) a fringe system, and that's a shame for the all good things it brings to the table.

At least when you tell others what you are using they've usually heard of it; when I tell people I usually get "Rail-what?"as the response and when I explain it I then get a disinterested look as it's not DCC. They're all brainwashed I tell you!

RP may be fringe but that's just poor marketing (and we've been over that many times) and poor attitude of the great brainwashed to even see that alternatives exist to their precious (read heavy) investment in DCC and they have to tell everyone who asks about RP their own anti-opinion of something they've never seen, touched or used.

I do remember however, a time when DCC was fringe and so expensive that only the 5 richest kings of Europe would own it and it's now mainstream so I guess there is hope for RP.
