Title: Atlas GP7 install
Post by: ON28 on November 14, 2019, 11:14:56 PM
Thought I'd show my install -- my first sound and light job for any loco. I retained the factory light board for plug-in convenience of the LM-S3, with the board's protruding pegs clipped off. I wired a pair of shortened iPhone 4s speakers in series, for greater amplitude, mounted on .030 styrene super-glued to the chassis towers. I got the speakers from Kaylee Zheng of Tom's Trains in Connecticut (www.tomstrains.com). The lights are Miniatronics YeloGlo LEDs, shrouded with shrink tubing, mounted near the stock lightbars with the tube extension clipped off. I use masking tape to hold things down, easier to manipulate than Kapton tape.

Nice install.

I know you said masking tape because it was easier to manipulate than Kapton tape but do be aware the masking tape may get gummy due to heat or it may become brittle with powdery residue due to age (heat may accelerate that too). Not much worse to try and clean either of those off the insides when you have to do a service.
