Will a LM-2 fit into....

(1/1)

Dean:
I have 2 Kato RS-2 locomotives and 2 Intermountain EMD F3As that I would like to install LM-2s.   Does anyone know if they will fit?      I am having my doubts about the RS-2s as the hood is really small.

Thanks

I put one in a Bachmann RS-2, but I don't know if the body width is the same as the Kato. One way to find out.  ;D

Trout fishing has temporarily interrupted my modeling but I have a Kato RS-2 stripped down and ready for a LM-2S.  I have not done the install but here's my plan:  so far I have removed the stock dcc & light board and the clamp that holds it in place on top of the motor.  I have also removed the weight from the rear of the shell (i.e. the end opposite the cab).  The Ring module will sit on top of the motor.  Power wires will run from it and be soldered to the copper strips that are beneath the "walkway" and that act as pick-ups for the trucks.  For the speaker I am using an i-phone buzzer that I purchased from Bill's Precision Design website.  That will fit above the gearbox and where the removed weight was.  I will be replacing the stock lights with LEDs; one will fit in the cab end's weight groove and the other will be glued with CA to the rear headlight port.  This is a work in progress so I can't guarantee that it will work but a test fit finds all the parts go into place and the shell clicks back into the chassis.

When the fish quit biting and you get back to business let us know how it turns out. I really like the iPhone speakers when there's room for them.

Pictures if you're able would be nice.

Thanks for your reply's
The Rail-pro decoders have been reassigned to 3 Intermountain F units. They are replacing the ESU decoders.
