Making Pictures for your HC2 Remote
« on: July 11, 2021, 08:26:28 AM »
I went to change my image on the remote from the standard "Ring Engine" to my Chessie engine.

I could not find any Chessie engines on the RP Assistant so I followed the instructions to make my own.

I started with a simple photo with my phone that I then cleaned up in Paint.  See pics 1 and 2.

I then found the BITMAP Builder link on this forum and used that tool which created picture 3.  By the way... to the owner/creator, it would be very helpful to have a SAVE AS so I could save the file where I want with the filename that I want.  Thanks.

After a few "user errors" I was able to get the picture in the remote.  But it looks a little small to me compared to the Ring Picture.  Did I do something wrong.  Can I do something different to enlarge the picture?

I took picture 2 and manually brought it down to 480x180 (RP specs) and basically it came out the exact same way.

Can I fix this or am I just being picky?  See Pic 4.

Yep, you can change this and easy to do. You need to crop the height of your image closer to the loco. You can do this in the bitmap builder. Once you've dropped your picture onto the builder use your mouse to select a crop area to reduce the amount of whitespace (height wise) of your picture.

It appears that the bitmap builder is scaling the height of the image first, and then making up the required width so your scaling all the whitespace above and below your loco. This is why your finished image appears so small.

You will also get a larger image if you uncheck the option for "pad the image for use with the load feature"

I don't know what browser you are using, but in FireFox clicking the Save Image link opens a dialog where you can ope the image in your default viewer or save it to a location with any name you wish.

If you have told your browser to "always open images", then you will not get the "save as" option. You'll need to check your browser settings, it's not an issue with the design of the Bitmap Builder.

Thank you so much for the help.

Reducing the top and bottom along with unchecking "pad the image" did the trick.  It's not a huge difference, but as my Son reminds me, I have old man eyes.

I was using Chrome for a browser.  It's my Son's computer, so I won't mess with his settings.  But I am looking for a Windows laptop for myself.

Thanks Again!  I'm having fun with this.

This is just what I was looking for since I can’t find the pics for Bachmann steamers that I want.  Thanks for this posting.
