RailPro software removed from RPUG

(1/3) > >>

William Brillinger:
NOTICE:

I was asked today by Ring Engineering to remove the standalone copies of their software from the RPUG forum as it is a copyright infringement.

This software has been removed as requested.

I'm surprised it took this long. I don't think Tim spends any time on here, so someone probably mentioned it to him.

G8B4Life:
Sad, but not unexpected.

I'll seek permission for RPUG to host his software but I'm not expecting anything to come of it. Maybe people who utilised the offline installer to be able to download and install the software might like to mention to Tim Ring that they are grateful that we did host it as they simply could not download it from Ring due to his reliance on UDP.

Even though providing the offline installer to get around the UDP problem only solved 75% of the problem for RPA (you'd still need UDP after installing to download anything from Ring but you could at least create your own pictures) it solved 100% of the UDP problem for HC Simulator as once installed it's good to go, no more UDP to the internet is required.

I emailed Ring two days ago regarding my issues getting RP to work.  I did make mention of the offline software here, so that might be why he made the request.  I am sorry to have said something, I didn't realize that Ring would take issue.  However, if his actions are in fact due to my email, the really sad part has to be I've gotten zero response to the issues I'm having and my equipment is still dead in the water.  I think Ring needs to take steps to remove this reliance on UDP, I've read nothing but issues caused by it, to the point where there are people who are serious about using RP and are unable to due to this issue.  I feel bad for the guy who dumps a few thousand dollars in to chips and other equipment who finds that he can't even install the software due to the file transfer scheme.

William Brillinger:
Chris, Don't feel bad about bringing this software to Rings attention. It's totally ok that you did.

Have you called as I suggested? Phone support seems to be much more responsive these days.
