soldering SMD LED's
« on: February 15, 2020, 07:03:16 AM »
if one were pathologically cheap (me!) and wanted to buy cheap LED's, are the solder connections what is shown in the picture in the attached ebay listing, where the chips are upside-down?  I realize these babies are only slightly larger than 1mmx1mm but for $2 (and the right color; these are "bright white") it would be fun to experment with.

You will find them challenging to solder using conventional methods. Can be done but not much fun. This style SMD is designed to be soldered in place using reflow techniques. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reflow_soldering

There are inexpensive SMDs with pre-soldered leads on eBay, including in bulk.
