RailPro Repeater RPT1, Two repeaters.

Just looking for operational information not in the RPT1 manual.  There are two repeaters installed on our 40X60 layout.  This morning we were still getting occasional red flashes for the signal on the controller running multiple locomotives. The repeaters are installed in the equipment list of the controller, HC3, as RPT1 and RPT2. Technically, how does this work?  As any given locomotive travels over the layout is it switching repeaters and direct signal depending on signal strength and if so, is there a time delay in switching that may be causing the red signal flashes?

My understanding is that the repeaters act as nodes, similar to how mesh Wifi works.   The radio signals can definitely be interfered with or blocked by physical obstructions.  If there are areas of scenery made with chicken wire base, I've seen that cause some slight connection drops. 

40x60 is relatively large.  Two RPT's may be enough for that, but it may not hurt to throw one more in there for good measure.  But if you are following your train around you really shouldn't need RPT's.  The HC-3 should have more than enough range if you are with your train.  If you are standing on the other side of the large room then RPT's would possibly be needed. 

I would just run what you have right now and keep an eye on it.  It the connection drops are significant and interfering with operations then let's dig further into it.  Otherwise I would just run the trains and enjoy it.

This is an existing outdoor layout at Sun City, Texas in Georgetown, TX.   We had lost connections across the layout when on one side and train on the other.  WE have lots of buildings and visitors so very often we cannot follow, so, did the repeaters and think it my be just transitioning between direct HC3 and a repeater causing a brief flash of red.
