Best way to free up memory space on HC2
« on: February 12, 2025, 06:35:33 PM »
Simple question I hope, what is the best or preferred way to free up space on my sons HC2?. It currently shows 43% free space. I'm not a computer wizard so any kind of help or feedback is greatly appreciated.            Dave

The only way to free up space is to delete files that you downloaded to the HC that you no longer need. You can see how to do that in my old-and-needs-an-update 2017 Illustrated Downloading, Copying & Updating with RailPro Guide: https://rpug.pdc.ca/index.php/topic,466.0.html. If I remember correctly only one button has changed in the entire guide since it was written so it's still 99% accurate.

Okay call me stupid and computer illiterate but trying to free up space on the HC2 I followed the instructions in the illustrated guide Storage Memory & Deleting. Now I only deleted one sound file that was a sound and the Locomotive now has no bell. I was under the assumption that the sounds were stored on the LM3S and would remain there for use. Am I not understanding something here? All I wanted to do was free up memory space on the HC2 which I did, about 1% but the sound is gone on the Locomotive. Please help this old man with this issue. Thanks in advance. Before someone asks there are presently 15 Locomotives with sound, lights etc. on the HC2.               Dave

You are correct, the sounds must be on the LM to be used. Have you accidentality deleted the file from the LM and not the HC? Deleting files from the HC does not delete them from the LM. You need to check if the file is still on the LM. You can do this following the same procedure to bring up the list of files but cancelling out instead of actually deleting anything.

Tim, thank you for your help. At this point I’m not sure exactly what I’ve done. The bell sound was on the Lm3s when I started. Thought I followed the directions but when I finished the bell sound was gone on the HC and the Lm3s. Obviously I missed something and I’m such a stunod! Computers and electronics are not my forte, guess I’m proving that in spades. I do really well with visuals but none to follow here. I’ll go back and try again. Love the RP system but hate my stupidity. Gave up on Digitrax a long time ago because it was so complicated.         Dave
