Software install problem
« on: January 08, 2018, 11:10:57 AM »
I have tried on 3 computers all running windows 10. I can download the installer and have followed all direction. I've disabled all fire walls and the like. Once the installer opens and the status screen starts, it runs for a couple of minutes but never downloads. Status bar doesn't move. I get the error " could not download from ring engineering".
Help me please! I was looking forward to purchasing some components.

It sounds like you are trying to download files to the HC. Sometimes, you have to detach the USB cable, exit error message and try it again. I have had to repeat this several times in the past, but now it is much better. Let us know if this helps.

Which browser are you using? RailPro is a bit particular that way. If you have IE, try that one. Also, make sure you have Administrator privileges.

It is possible, but unlikely that the RailPro server is down. Perhaps you should try again in a little while, or send an email to Ring. Tim Ring is very good with support.

One more thing. Did you see any warnings about the software doing harm to your PC. If so, you have to allow the download anyway. Don't worry, there are no viruses involved.

Do you by chance have a Satellite internet connection?

If so, you probably won't get the download to work. Ring Engineering uses a UDP connection which it typically blocked by Satellite providers.

If you are using this type of connection, I urge you to contact Ring Engineering by phone and discuss the issue.
And then also contact your Satellite Provider and see what they can do for you.

I've authorized all downloads and ran it as administrator and the like. I'm using my Verizon Hotspot to download.

I assume this is a mobile data plan with a tethered phone. You may need to contact Verizon to find out if you can enable UDP packets.

Still no dice. I'm quite disappointed. I was looking forward to giving this a try as my First DCC system.

I can understand your disappointment and frustrration, but don't give up. I urge you to call Ring tomorrow. They will work with you to resolve this. In the meantime, do you have access to a different computer using a different ISP? If you can download enough files onto your HC2, that should get you going until your current problem gets resolved.

I havent purchased anything as of yet. Id like to purchase the CI-1 first and give it a try with a decoder.
Ive tried to download on 3 different computers. Unfortunately they are all on Verizon's network. I tried it on our hotspot and my phones hotspot.

The CI-1 works in conjunction with the HC Simulator and is independent of RailPro Assistant. So if you can't RPA to download, the CI-1 won't be useful. If you have tried three computers, I would say Verizon is definitely the problem, and not RPA.
