Use of DC power pack for rail pro ?

Is it OK to run one of my Railpro engines on a DC layout? Was going to try it out on a friends DC system.

If he has a decent filtered DC controller, crank it up and go.
If it's a cheapo train set power pack, eeeehh. maybe don't.

Thanks Bill. I assume putting the Voltage to about 14 volts is the proper setting on the power pack?
