Wiring troubles. Help appreciated.

William Brillinger:
how have you configured the lighting buttons on the HC?

nodcc4me:
Something doesn't sound right. Assuming you are using track power and not battery, when you refer to the "board" do you mean the LM or the manufacturer's board in the locomotive? If you mean the LM, then the position of the white wire is not on the end of the board, but is in the middle according to the wiring diagram. That would indicate that you possibly have the wrong 9-pin harness. Also, if there is no manufacturer's board then the LEDs must have a resistor.

Davidbross:
Battery power. When I say end of board I just mean it’s on the end left to right.  It’s definitely in the middle. I do have the right harness. It can with the board.  The only board I’m using is the lm3sG.  All other boards were pulled out of the loco.

Davidbross:
Bill. I configured the button as a simple on off.

the other part of Tim's question was are you using an LED or an incandescent bulb?  if an LED, are you using a resistor in series with it?  if not, it probably blew immediately when you first turned it on.  for a white LED you need a 100 ohm resistor.  I usually put the resistor on the negative leg of the LED.
