Wiring power pick ups in the tender?
« on: September 10, 2025, 07:15:24 PM »
Good afternoon one and all:

I have on my bench, for the last two years, a MEHANO, 2-8-2 mikado ho steam engine I am hard wiring with an LM-2S decoder.

I finally got back to working on this little project by soldering the 6 pin wires to the male jst micro connector.

I will be wiring the red and black wires to the locomotive power pick ups.

The tender also has power pick ups.  Originally used to power the light in the tender.

Is there any need or point to running pig tails off the red and black wires and attaching them to the tender power pickups?  This would then have leads to both the locomotive and tender pick ups.

The decoder will be mounted in the tender so it would be easy enough to do.

Kind regards,
Max

More pickups will lessen the chance of engine stalling due to dirty wheels and track or on switches.
