Multiple non-linked engines

Is it possible for one controller to run multiple engines at the same time? (not consisted/linked).
I'm thinking of something similar to NCE's "Recall" button where you can switch between several locos.
It is unclear to me if the controller must be in constant contact with an engine at all times or can you "get it moving" and change to another engine and address it.

No, the locos do not have to stay in contact with the HC. The loco will stay in motion.
Yes, you can independently control multiple locomotives one-at-a-time from one HC.
