Hi all! Jack Maney here, based in Wichita, Kansas for the time being. Started collecting HO scale trains by age 6 and have stuck with it ever since. For years, I've been wary of DCC due to the seemingly endless array of strange, seemingly unexplainable issues that seem to pop up at random and the requirement to speed-match locomotives in order to run them as a consist. When I found out Railpro did it automatically, I was intrigued. When I found out you can run Railpro alongside DCC instead of having to fully commit to the new system all at once, I was sold!

Recently, I've gotten into Free-Mo modular setups and Railpro has been amazing. While the other guys were scratching their heads and fumbling with loconet for hours, I was the only person able to run trains since the rails were powered. Hoping to build my knowledge and maybe share a little from time to time.  :D

Welcome aboard Michael H.!
Let us know how it goes when you use RailPro in those modular (DCC) groups. Always interesting to read about those situations.

Welcome aboard Jack M.!
I lived in Wichita '81 - '83 when I got out of school and took a job with Cessna. I moved to the Cincinnati area for another career and am now fully retired and enjoying that life immensely!

Hello RP Group:
My name is Patrick, from Southern NJ. 61 YO, verge of retiring someday. Was into trains at young age - 4 x 8 tycos - then got married, built a 16 x26 ho layout, moved, took a sawsall to it. Just unpacked all the trains after a 25 year boating habit came to an end.
Planning to build HO 13 x17 layout (room size), 4 levels - 2 helixes ...

Been studying dcc for a year now, not thrilled about it, then just saw Rail Pro. I have 100+ HO locos, some are 8 pin dcc ready, some will need hardwiring, not scared of a soldiering iron.

Is Railpro still a viable entity ? Don't see much on line other than YT stuff ...
I really like the system, especially speed management with consists - looks great.
Was going to do a DC/DCC control setup, now I have better options. DC/DCC/Deadrail - or DC/RP Power ?

Everybody still love their Rail Pro ?

Thanks

Welcome Patrick.

RailPro is certainly still a viable system. You don't see a whole lot online about RP because in the mainstream hobby RailPro seems to be a dirty word "because it's not DCC and it's propriety".  Most of us with RP just brush that off while laughing at the same DCC folk who then suggest you need to standardise on one brand of decoder to make your fleet work properly together because "proprietary features".

As far as I know, everyone here still likes the system though a couple of us are less enthralled than we used to be.

Howdy Patrick!
I started using RailPro ~5 years ago and haven't looked back. I'm in the construction mode of my double-deck layout and only have five locos up and running with RP to this point. I have numerous friends with layouts that utilize various OEM DCC systems. I've seen no reason to switch. I'm happy!

Awesome - That is fantastic ! Thanks for the welcome.

I was buried deep into research for Digitrax System, but was not thrilled with how fussy dcc programming is, loconet, jmri, all the extra boxes etc ... track cleaning. Nice when it works, but I wasn't convinced to pull the trigger.

I like RP for the simpleness, speed control with MU's and not have to speed match. That is absolutely beautiful.

Super - can't wait to get up and going now. Look forward to getting into this.
