« on: October 09, 2015, 07:05:59 AM »
This is the list of current RailPro Sounds as of January 3rd, 2020:
These sounds are available through the RailPro Assistant software to download to your RailPro system.

Click the links below to hear individual Sound Samples or visit https://www.ringengineering.com/Sounds.htm
Note that the Ring page is missing a number of it's source files and is very slow. All the files we found that worked are linked below.
If you notice new sounds posted, please let me know in a comment below. Cheers!

I asked Ring Engineering about adding a public list of sounds on the RailPro Website.

Tim says:

Hi Bill,

There is not a direct listing of the sounds but you can download the RailPro Assistant software for free (no RailPro equipment needed to download it) and you can use it to see a list of all available sounds.  We know it would be nice to see a listing with sound samples on our internet site and hope/plan to get that done at some point.

Huge list of sounds, many which don't work on the samples page    since it takes an hour to load a sound, which we may not want once we hear it, it's then several hours to load the Sound we do want...... Any chance the sound samples can actually be loaded to the page?

The sound samples page on Rings site is super overloaded with duplicate sources being loaded making it terribly slow.

I looked at it and the answer is YES. I'll update the sound list page with direct links to the samples and they will work instantly.
Give me a bit of time, but I'll try to have it this afternoon.

** OK, this is done now.

Not trying to be difficult... But there is a huge number of sounds not uploaded. Using my phone or my computer....

That's correct. I linked all the ones that exist to the LIST AT THE TOP OF THIS PAGE.
Ring's page is missing lots of sounds. There are also many duplicate sounds and that is why they load so slowly.

I did send Ring a list of missing sounds and he says he will add them as they are converted into ULT versions.

Is it possible for us to have a "mirror site"? That is, a copy of the sounds or even light effects from the RailPro site on this server? This would certainly allow for faster download times for us. Any thoughts?

Ring would have been far better off just having each sound file once on the page and a list of all the locomotives that use it attached instead of the way it's been done with a copy of the same sound file for each locomotive that uses a particular engine.

Is it possible for us to have a "mirror site"? That is, a copy of the sounds or even light effects from the RailPro site on this server? This would certainly allow for faster download times for us. Any thoughts?

I've read that two different ways so I'll cover both possible interpretations.

For "mirroring" the sounds page, I suspect if we asked we'd get a big "no", and if we did it anyway we'd get a take down notice. Direct linking like Bill has done is the only way to do it. Lighting effects can't be visualised (realistically) without taking a video of the effect in action (could be made into an animated gif).

For hosting the actual files that you download with RailPro Assistant, much different kettle of fish and the answer to that would certainly be no. It also probably wouldn't speed things up as much as you might imagine. It might speed things up a bit but much of the slowness in downloading comes from how the software operates, not the speed of Rings server/connection.
