Can you have Manual and Auto Notching?
« on: February 02, 2025, 07:42:10 AM »
I recently got a new Rapido loco which is fantistic and works great (running the 9 pin module currently... need to get a new 21!). The only problem I have with it is that it works really well and will start rolling and pull cars very easily before the prime mover sounds start to spool up. I tried using the manual notching but it is ALL maunal; If I forgot to notch up, it stays at idle or if I forgot to notch down it will stay screaming.
Back when I was running DCC, with the system I used, if I notched up or down, the system would return to normal automatic as soon as the loco passed that particular spot in the notching (e.g. - Manaully notch up to 3 before setting a loco rolling and it would stay there until the automatic notching reached the same place and then would take over).
Is there a way to have my cake and eat it too with RailPro? My old converted BB Athearns are perfect in this regard as they take a little extra voltage to start rolling. The nicer, newer locos I have are a little too good. :)

Not that I know of. You are correct that Rapido locos start moving quite soon on the power curve. On mine, I've spooled up the load setting and ensure that there is at least 10 seconds each momentum for acceleration and deceleration.

Be interesting if anyone knows of a way to have both.
