RailPro Specific Help & Discussion / Re: RAILPRO INSTALLERS

I am also interested in a Bowser RS-3.

A question for those who have converted one and will a LM3s fit in without surgery to weights or removal of the factory board?

The previous post does not mention this.

3 wires...

2 pick up track power, and one goes to motor

the 3rd is the other side of the motor...

There are some tricks to isolating the motor from its direct connection to the track pickup...

you find that connection, break it somehow, and then solder an extra wire to the motor tab, and now you have 4 connections, 2 for power pickup and 2 for motor...

but, you may get confused on how to use the motherboard, and figuring out if lights and smoke are 5v or 18v...

I flagged a new product called RPT back in July: https://rpug.pdc.ca/index.php/topic,1624.0.html. Why it did not click that RPT would stand for repeater back then I don't know.

Still, should be quite helpful and something we've wanted for quite some time.

Yes, it should be able to be used with any wall wart.  I'm pretty sure they all have about the same power output.

I've been testing the RPT-1 and it works well.  I think this is a good solution for guys operating on someone else's layout, a club layout, or Freemo.  If you're concerned about signal being lost, or are in a saturated area (show), then throwing a couple of these things around the space is simple and works great.  Either put them in a wall wart or in a cell phone battery pack.

Or if you want to increase the signal on your own layout without adding a much more expensive PWR-56, these are a simple solution.

Adding to my earlier post. I have removed the innards of the loco and found that there are 3 wires going to the motor. The motor works when only 2 wires have "juice", green and white. What function does the brown wire serve? Anybody?

Thank you.

Can this be used with any usb wall wart? Like say the ones that come with cell phones? I have a couple of those kicking around.

Based on the FAQ on the product page, I would say "Yes."

General Discussion / Re: State of RailPro update

I run NCE because I bought it as part of an estate sale before I heard of RailPro. I got into RP when I was experimenting with HO battery power. So I run both, which is part of the appeal of RP -- you can run it on top of an existing DCC system. I had never (and still haven't) installed a DCC decoder, but I was up and running with RP in 20 minutes. I've posted my installs here, admittedly, older four axle diesels with basic lights and sound and none of the modern shell-full weights to work around. My layout is 20x15, and a little sound goes a long way.

I can't speak to Tim Ring's plans but it's a small business with attendant limits, I am sure. And I can relate an anecdote which some here may have heard: A friend is a well-known former editor of one of the leading hobby magazines. One day he went to the owner's wife and said there was so much more they could to make the magazine Number One in the hobby. "Did it ever occur to you," she said, "that [the owner] doesn't want to be Number One?" That's when he decided to move on.

New RPT-1 Radio Repeater announced today!

I checked with Ring, and they confirm that the RPT-1 works with any HC.

RPT-1 works with all RailPro Products.
Your HC-2 and HC-2b need to be at Rev 2.52 or newer to use RPT-1. HC-3 needs to be at Rev 1.09 or newer.

https://ringengineering.com/RPT-1.htm

From Ring's website:

Add this low cost radio repeater to your RailPro Layout to add extended Radio Range and improved radio coverage!  You can use multiple RPT-1 to extend the radio range of a RailPro Handheld Controller to hundreds of feet!

All Radios (including Bluetooth and WiFi) suffer from multipath distortion.  This is where a radio wave can bounce off an object and come back and combine with the original signal in a way that it degrades the signal.  This typically can cause small angles to have dead spots. By adding a RailPro Radio Repeater you can eliminate this radio problem completely.
