RailPro Specific Help & Discussion / Re: Lights and Wire Color Choice

It really does not matter. They are all the same.

Some, like front lamp and rear lamp are pre-programmed, but even those can be changed if desired.

RailPro Specific Help & Discussion / Lights and Wire Color Choice
« Last post by Espeelark on November 27, 2024, 09:58:55 AM »
Howdy everyone!
I'm underway on an Athearn U50 install and was wondering if there is a "best practice" when it comes to which color wire (green or violet) I should use when wiring up a typical Southern Pacific oscillating headlight. Or does it matter not?
Thanks!

Welcome aboard Michael H.!
Let us know how it goes when you use RailPro in those modular (DCC) groups. Always interesting to read about those situations.

General Discussion / Re: Is the LM-3S completely functional with a DCC controller

Hey Greg, I like using my CI-1 Simulator!!

Greg is correct. I call the RailPro a hybrid system. This capability offers a new RailPro user who already is using DCC can run this engine . In the future they might want invest in the HC for direct radio control.

RailPro Specific Help & Discussion / Re: LGB install assistance (please)

Glad to see you did it the correct way, trying to use other manufactures components may work in some cases, but when you have problems with things not working, it's a real problem to find out where it is. I've got a box full of electronics, etc. that cane out of 6 LGB engines that now hove Rail Pro.

RailPro Specific Help & Discussion / Leslie RS3L/S3L/SU3L Supertyfon Horn
« Last post by CPRail on November 09, 2024, 06:00:12 PM »
Does anyone have a sound file for a Leslie RS3L/S3L/SU3L Supertyfon horn?  This is probably the most commonly used horn family until recently. UP, BN, ATSF, SOO, MILW, MKT, CNW, KCS, EL, RDG and others used this horn. The Prime PM-290 is identical.

I need one for my SOO SD40-2.

Note: I have files for a Leslie RS3K and a S3K (the S3K is a D# Minor chord, while the S3L is approximately C, D#, A), but they need the loop part edited down to 1 second and I don't have the skills to do that. I could easily live with a S3K file. I just need that Leslie honker sound to stand out from my Nathan K3LAs.

Of course, if someone wants to edit them, I'll share the files here.

Since you need the RP system to set up the LM and also "release" it to DCC, It would make more sense for people to just change the decoder, with the limits in the RP under DCC... i.e. they need a RP controller to make this work... That's more money than a new decoder. (yes you can use the computer setup, but that reduced cost would be offset by the hassle to have the system installed and online to basically do any changes).

You should advertise it exactly how it is; it contains a module from a different control system (RailPro) that is DCC compatible up to a point; and give a link to Rings page about RailPros DCC compatibility: https://ringengineering.com/DccHome.htm.

Basically you can control some DCC features with a DCC controller but you need RailPro to set them up in the first place, and to change the features behavior later on. There are NO CVs within an LM that can be programmed by a DCC controller.

Last time I tested consisting a DCC enabled LM it was hit and miss. It was said to be easy with DigiTrax; it was a failure on NCE. Something to do with the number of speed steps which NCE didn't support when consisted.

If I want to sell a locomotive with an LM-3S installed can it be advertised as being able to be operated using a DCC controller (DCC compatible)?  I have no experience with a DCC controller, but know that a locomotive with an LM-3S can be set up to be controlled by one: sounds, lights, movement, etc.  But, I have read about how complicated consisting DCC locomotives can be and I know how easy it is do so with LM-3S locomotives.

Can anyone tell me if it is possible for a DCC controller to consist an LM-3S locomotive with a locomotive with a DCC decoder installed, or with another LM-3S locomotive: or if there are any other points of incompatibility trying to run an LM-3S locomotive with a DCC controller?
